  1. This is very interesting. I am a third great-granddaughter of Francis A. Hammond and Alice Howard through their daughter Mary Alice and her husband, Andrew P. Sorensen.

  2. Cheryl, welcome to the FAH Journals blog! It’s always amazing to find connections through our ancestors. If you have any questions feel free to ask away.

Alice Howard, Mary Alice and Andrew P. Sorensen take part in the journals during the San Juan period. If you have any photos or writings you would like us to add to the blog, let us know.

  3. How would I access the journals during the San Juan period that you mentioned? I have forwarded this information to my mother and she can tell my grandmother about it. Perhaps they would have more information and pictures than I would.

  4. Cheryl, my Dad has a copy of the entire file that we will be more than happy to send you. I will email you with logistics. Thanks for your interest!

  5. Hi,
I am Cheryl’s mother. I am happy to see you have put so much time into Grandpa Hammond’s history. I have some of this information also. I have a question. In the photo I know which one is FAH but I’m not sure of the others. Could you tell me who they are. We have no photos of Alice Howard and sure would like to. I have one photo of my great-grand parents, Mary Alice and Andrew Sorensen with their children which includes my grandfather.
    Thanks, Nancy

  6. Nancy – Welcome to the blog! It’s wonderful to have you here.

Here are the people in the photo:

Top Row: Samuel Smith, Francis A, Mary Jane Dilworth, Amelia May

Bottom row (curving down): Fletcher Bartlett, Mary Moiselle, Eliza Dilworth, Joseph Heber, Maybell Ophelia

I have one small photo of Mary Alice, but none of Alice Howard. I’ll have to do some digging. If you would like to have your photo posted here, email it to me and I’ll be happy to add it.

  7. Thank you for the information. If you send me your email address I will send you the photo (with my son’s help).
    Thanks so much, Nancy

  8. Hi, I have been researching family and came across here references here, my great great grandfather William Hyde, and my great aunt, Helen Athalia Hyde, in the section on the San Juan. I spent many years living in San Juan County New Mexico and in Montezuma County, Colorado. I plan to read this whle journal, but am also wondering if there is a way in the meantime to go straight to the san juan section. does it start on a pcific date? Thanx for putting this on l;ine by the way, your work is appreciated. Blessings, JD Wesch

  9. JD Wesch – Welcome to the Journals! It is so much fun to find connections to Francis A’s stories. I will be happy to send you the San Juan section of the journals.

The San Juan portion spans Dec 13, 1883 to Nov 25, 1900. It is actually the bulk of the journals.

This project has certainly been one of love and we are happy to share it.

  10. Thanks for all this great info! My husband is related to FAH through Alice Howard. We have a published book by Nathan Adamson Jr that has some of FAH’s biography. Can you identify any of the people in the family pic besides FAH?

  11. Sorry-I should have read all the comments before asking! Now I see…and would love to see a pic of Alice Howard if you should receive one!

    • shart – Thanks for taking time to explore the website! I’m sorting through the photos I have and will be happy to share when I get them formatted.
