A beautiful morning. Little Francis A. Jr. was sick last night, or rather towards morning, with the earache. I anointed him and laid hands on several times, finally he got better. It caused me some reflections on the cause of pains and aches in little children and why they should be subject to pains, seeing they had never sinned; but just to praise the Lord for the power of the priesthood which had power to rebuke. Mrs. H. also was very miserable through the greater part of the night. I think she has been too smart in getting up after her sickness, and I am afraid she will not gain anything by it but lose. Kane, one of the brethren, came to work in our garden. Mrs. H. is not out of her bed but is fallen into a relapse. I am teaching the school.

In the evening Br. Hill and Mr. Marston came and spent the evening with us, had a very pleasant time in talking upon Mormonism. I think Mr. Marston cannot well help obeying the truth for he believes it all, but for Br. Charles Hill, he does not appear to be very strong in the faith. He has never been with the church, that is he has never gathered, but has belonged to the church for some years. Br. Addison Pratt baptized him on Tahiti. He has preached there on those islands among the natives a good deal.
